Prominent Indian scholar calls on New Delhi to halt arms exports to Israel and end military cooperation

NEW DELHI, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, president of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, has called on the Indian government to immediately halt shipments of weapons and military equipment to the Israeli occupation and end military cooperation with it.

Madani based his demand on an Amnesty International report that revealed the export of Indian artillery equipment and ammunition to the occupation between October 2023 and November 2025.

He criticized the “ambiguous” position of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressing that continued military support violates international law, the Geneva Conventions, and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and constitutes a retreat from India’s historical policy of supporting the Palestinian people.

He called on the government to be transparent with the public and to uphold its moral and humanitarian responsibilities to stop the violations against civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Madani also addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, noting that Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and injuries to hundreds of thousands, with women and children being the most affected, amid widespread destruction and significant difficulties in accessing basic necessities.
