Two Yemeni brothers begin cycling journey towards 2026 World Cup

SANAA, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Yemeni Taekwondo stars Ammar and Amr Fahd Al-Ansi have officially embarked on a cross-continental journey by bicycle, in a bold display of ambition and national pride.

Departing from the capital, Sanaa, the brothers are heading toward Mexico to attend the opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, carrying a message of resilience from Yemen to the world’s premier sporting stage.

This ambitious trek began at the Al-Emadi Center (Haraz Coffee), with the city of Marib serving as the first milestone in their long path. The departure was marked by a grand celebratory send-off, attended by a wide spectrum of sports personalities, social influencers, and supporters who gathered to cheer on the athletes as they began their mission to bridge borders through sport.

This expedition is not the brothers’ first foray into long-distance cycling; it aims to build upon their successful 2022 trek to the Qatar World Cup. During that journey, they covered approximately 2,100 kilometers over 39 days to reach Doha. By attempting this even more grueling route to North America, the Al-

Ansi brothers hope to demonstrate that with simple means and iron will, Yemeni youth can overcome immense challenges to reach global platforms.

Ultimately, they view this adventure as more than a physical feat, but as a human bridge, affirming that sports remain a powerful language of peace and determination that knows no boundaries.
