RIYADH, Jan. 31 (YPA) – Activists on social media have circulated a video in recent hours showing an unusual incident involving Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council, during a meeting in Riyadh.
The footage captures scenes of chaos and heated exchanges following a meeting between Al-Alimi and representatives from Shabwa Province on Friday. Security personnel are seen attempting to escort him out of the conference hall as tensions escalated.
Conflicting accounts emerged about what caused the unrest inside the hall.
Some sources said that the unrest began after Al-Alimi proposed temporarily placing the Al-Abr area of Hadhramaut Governorate under the administrative authority of Al-Jawf Province, so it would fall under the control of Saudi-funded Emergency Forces as an alternative to the “Dera Al-Watan” forces, as part of arrangements related to Aden.
According to these accounts, the proposal was met with strong rejection, and water bottles were thrown toward Al-Alimi.
Other reports suggest that the escalation followed a heated verbal exchange with political activist Ahmed Al-Saleh.
According to these accounts, Al-Saleh confronted Al-Alimi for referring to slain forces allied with the Southern Transitional Council as “outlaws” rather than “Martyrs of the South.”
Sources indicated the situation nearly turned violent, with brief physical scuffles breaking out before Saudi security forces intervened. Personnel formed a protective cordon around Al-Alimi and escorted him out of the hall under tight security.
