UNICEF: One million children in Gaza need urgent psychological treatment

GAZA, Jan. 29 (YPA) – UNICEF spokesperson in Gaza, James Elder, confirmed on Thursday that the level of destruction in the Gaza Strip is immense and flimsy tents do not protect children from the winter cold.

Elder said: “We are working to provide children with clean drinking water to prevent diseases and epidemics, and one million children in the Gaza Strip are in urgent need of psychological support.”

He explained that 700,000 children in Gaza have not received formal education due to the war.

These statements come as nine European countries, along with Canada and Japan, called on Israel to commit to open the crossings and lifting restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, given the catastrophic situation there.

A joint statement from these countries called on the Israeli government to fully commit to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza and the West Bank, in accordance with international law.
