Venezuela’s interim leader Rodriguez to visit US

CARACAS, Jan. 22 (YPA) – Venezuela’s interim president will soon visit the United States, a senior US official said.

Delcy Rodriguez would be the first sitting Venezuelan president to visit the United States in more than a quarter century – aside from presidents attending United Nations meetings in New York, according to the official.

She said that she approached any dialogue with the United States “without fear”.

“We are in a process of dialogue, of working with the United States, without any fear, to confront our differences and difficulties…and to address them through diplomacy,” said Ms Rodriguez.

Rodríguez also highlighted that the unity of Latin American and Caribbean peoples on just causes “reinforces national pride” and fosters regional solidarity as an influential force, based on a model of understanding, dialogue, and diplomacy in opposition to expansionist and hegemonic concepts.

In a related development, the French newspaper Le Figaro reported that a senior military official announced on his Telegram account that Rodríguez had appointed new military leaders following the United States’ arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.

The official noted that 12 high-ranking officers were assigned to head military regions, and reminded that Rodríguez had previously appointed a former head of the national intelligence agency to lead the presidential guard and counterintelligence operations.
