MOSCOW, Jan. 22 (YPA) – Tatyana Moskalkova, the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, said that 524 bodies of people killed in Russia’s Kursk region were found in mass graves After the invasion of the Ukraine forces in the region .
“Since August 6, 2024, 524 bodies of the dead have been found in their mass graves,” she told reporters.
She added that since what she described as the “treacherous invasion of the region by Ukrainian forces and the taking of civilians hostage,” all of Russia’s resources and capabilities have been mobilized to help people locate their loved ones.
Moskalkova stated that 2,173 individuals have been entered into the missing persons database. Of these, 1,378 have been located, 452 remain missing, and 343 have been confirmed dead.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian forces launched an attack on August 6, 2024, with the aim of seizing territory in the Kursk region. Russian forces later succeeded in halting their advance.
On April 26, 2025, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov informed Russian President Vladimir Putin that the operation to liberate the Kursk region from Ukrainian fighters had been completed.
Gerasimov also stated that Kiev’s losses in the Kursk region exceeded 76,000 of its most highly trained military personnel.
