US ambassador to Israel: Israel will soon decide to open Rafah crossing

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Jan. 22 (YPA) – The US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee confirmed on Thursday that Israel will soon decide to open Rafah crossing.

In a press statement, Huckabee said: “We are confident that Rafah crossing will open, and I believe that Israel will make a decision to do so soon.”

Regarding the reconstruction of Gaza, he added: “We expect the countries that are members of the Peace Council to participate in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.”

On Wednesday, informed sources revealed that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza will soon announce the opening of Rafah crossing in both directions, and its operational budget for two years with support from a number of donor countries.

The committee explained that Egypt informed the committee that Rafah crossing will soon open in both directions, and that the American side exerted pressure on the Israeli side to expedite the opening of the crossing and allow the head and members of the committee to enter Gaza to begin their work in managing the Strip, noting that the Israeli side promised to open it in the coming days.

It should be noted that Israel refuses to open Rafah crossing, despite the American announcement of entering the second phase and the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee to administer Gaza, under the pretext of the need to recover the remains of the last Israeli prisoner from the Gaza Strip, for which the Palestinian resistance is still making efforts to find him.
