UNRWA warns of severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza as children miss essential vaccines

GAZA, Jan. 20 (YPA) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned of a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting that children have been repeatedly denied essential vaccines for over two years due to ongoing Israeli attacks and the suffocating blockade.

“Amid more than two years of war in the Gaza Strip, children repeatedly missed out on the vaccines that they need to keep them safe from preventable diseases,” UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, posted on X.

“Harsh winter weather, with cold, heavy rainfall and floods, has Gaza in its grip. This compounds disease risks that are already at record highs because of poor water and sanitation in overcrowded shelters, the collapse of the medical system,” he added.

He pointed out that “yesterday, along with UNICEF, WHO, local partners, UNRWA teams started the second round of a vaccination campaign for children under the age of three.”

He stressed that “UNRWA works to save lives in Gaza.”
