GAZA, Jan. 12 (YPA) – A joint statement issued by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club confirmed the death of prisoner Hamza Abdullah Adwan, 67, from the Gaza Strip, who died on September 9, 2025, in Israeli prisons.
Adwan had been arrested in Gaza on November 12, 2024. He was married and a father of nine, two of whom were killed before the outbreak of the latest war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club stated that the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees killed in Israeli prisons since 1967 has reached 323, including more than 100 martyrs since the start of the genocide in Gaza on October 2023.
In a statement, the club explained that this number includes cases in which Palestinian human rights, medical and legal institutions were able to document the killings over the past decades, in light of what it described as Israel’s “policy of concealment and obfuscation.”
The Prisoners Club stated that the period following the outbreak of the Israeli war of extermination on the Gaza Strip constituted “the most dangerous and bloody transformation in the history of the prisoners’ movement, both in terms of the number of martyrs and the nature of the crimes committed within the prison system and detention centers.”
It explained that the identities of 86 prisoners who died after October 8 have been announced so far, including 50 prisoners from the Gaza Strip, whereas the club considered this a clear indication of the escalation of systematic killing policies, especially against Gaza detainees who are subjected to harsh and inhumane detention conditions.
