Video reveals backstage of secret Emirati-run prison in Aden

ADEN, Jan. 10 (YPA) – Exclusive footage published on Saturday by the local platform “Sons of Aden” revealed information about a network of secret and illegal detention centers operating in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.

According to visual documents obtained by the platform, the detainee is directly managed by Kamal al-Halimi, the commander of the so-called “Land Protection” Unit of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, and is part of a network of secret prisons operating outside the judicial framework and legal supervision.

The leaked footage showed extremely poor humanitarian conditions inside the detention center, which, according to sources, has turned into a center of extortion and forced collection, targeting primarily merchants and citizens.

The sources stressed that the violations included arbitrary detention and the imposition of financial royalties, where detainees are released only after payments starting from two million Yemeni riyals, which equals $8,387.52.
