Sanaa holds int’l organizations accountable for surge in irregular migration from Africa
SANAA, Jan. 06 (YPA) – The National Committee for Refugee Affairs in Sanaa has held international organizations, led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), fully responsible for the repercussions of the increasing influx of irregular migrants from the Horn of Africa to Yemen.
In a high-level meeting chaired by Abdulwahid Abu Ras, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Committee, the authorities warned that any failure by international bodies to fulfill their mandates would lead to severe humanitarian and security consequences. The discussions specifically focused on the rising numbers of Ethiopian migrants and the complex challenges associated with this trend.

During the session, the Committee reviewed a proposed mechanism to coordinate various national agencies in managing the crisis. This included reviewing security reports on the latest developments and discussing practical solutions to mitigate the risks posed by the uncontrolled flow of migrants.
The participants concluded by firmly rejecting the “repeated excuses” offered by international organizations to justify their lack of action. The Committee emphasized that addressing the migration crisis is not only the core responsibility of these organizations but is also the fundamental reason for their presence and operations within Yemen.
