Venezuela’s Supreme Court appoints Delcy Rodríguez as acting president

CARACAS, Jan. 04 (YPA) – Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) ordered on Sunday Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the presidency in an acting capacity.

This judicial order followed in light of the developments taking place in the country after the kidnapping of President-elect Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, and transported them to New York by US forces in Caracas.

In the context, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced its recognition of Delcy Rodríguez as the interim president of Venezuela, in the absence of Maduro, who is detained in America.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry also reported that the Latin American and Caribbean countries would hold an emergency meeting in the coming period, with the aim of determining a common position on the US attack on Venezuela.

On the ground, media outlets said the imposition of tight security measures in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, amid complete calm in its neighborhoods, pointing to a state of shock on the Venezuelan street following the kidnapping of US forces of President-elect Nicolas Maduro.

The sources added that the US bombing, which targeted a number of public facilities, led to power outages in a number of Venezuelan cities.

On Saturday, the United States of America launched an aggression on the Venezuelan capital Caracas, targeting ports, airports and military bases, while President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were kidnapped and taken by US ship to New York.
