OCCUPIED QUDS, Dec. 30 (YPA) – The Israeli Knesset finalized a law on Tuesday to cut electricity and water services to the offices of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Quds (Jerusalem).
The legislation, which passed its final reading, is set to take effect immediately.
The bill was approved with a majority of 59 votes in favor and only seven against, marking the conclusion of a legislative process that began with preliminary approval last November. During the session, Israeli occupation’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, justified the move by labeling UNRWA an “incitement environment,” asserting that there is no longer a justification for its operations within the city.
This decision is expected to directly affect more than 110,000 Palestinian refugees who rely on the agency’s vital services, including health and educational facilities in the Shuafat and Qalandia camps, as well as the “Indian Corner” clinic.
Furthermore, legal experts warn that this measure constitutes a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. It directly contradicts UN Resolution 302 of 1949, which established UNRWA as a global commitment to Palestinian refugees pending the implementation of Resolution 194 regarding the right of return.
