Trump: Russia and Ukraine are close to sign ceasefire agreement

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump said after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida that Russia and Ukraine are close to signing a ceasefire agreement.

Trump added that “Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to see Ukraine prosperous,” stressing that there is a way to overcome Putin’s opposition to a ceasefire.

For his part, Zelensky described the results of the meeting as “important,” and announced a full agreement between Ukraine and the United States on security issues, with Ukrainian delegations to meet with US officials to complete the talks, while Trump will soon host Ukrainian and European leaders in Washington.

Meanwhile, the draft peace plan that Zelensky presented to Trump included 20 points, including security guarantees aimed at preventing any future Russian aggression, while noting two main points of contention: the future of Donbas and control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The meeting took place after a phone call between Trump and Putin, which Trump described as “very productive.”
