Heavy prison sentences, fines handed to 3 youths from Zalafa

HAIFA, Dec. 28 (YPA) – The Haifa District Court of Israeli occupation on Sunday sentenced three young men from the town of Zalafa in the Triangle region to lengthy prison terms ranging from 7 to 11 years, accompanied by a fine of 75,000 NIS each.

These harsh sentences follow more than four years of detention related to their alleged participation in the “Dignity Uprising” (May 2021). Specifically, the court sentenced both Obaida and Ibrahim Abu Bakr to 11 years, while Karim Abu Bakr received a 7-year sentence.

The rulings were issued in response to the Israeli occupation prosecution’s allegations regarding the youths’ involvement in confrontations during the 2021 popular protests. Despite the severity of these terms, the prosecution had reportedly pushed for even stricter penalties, ranging between 10 and 14 years.
