UAE-backed factions loot Central Bank’s treasury in Mahra

MAHRA, Dec. 18 (YPA) – Armed elements affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) stormed the Central Bank of Yemen branch in Al-Ghaydah city, the capital of Mahra Governorate eastern Yemen on Thursday, seizing large sums of money and transferring them to the military axis headquarters.

Local sources reported that the operation was carried out using UAE-supplied armored vehicles and military equipment. The funds were packed into large bags and transported under a media blackout and silence from the local authorities.

The sources added that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ambiguous, with no information yet on which entity issued the orders to seize the funds.

This incident comes amid ongoing escalation in Mahra since early December, following the takeover of military camps, ports, and service institutions by STC factions.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Mahra’s districts continue to demand the withdrawal of these armed factions and their return to Aden, Lahj, and Dhalea governorates.
