Yemen’s scholars call for int’l protection of holy sites, refuse to offend holy Quran

SANAA, Dec. 18 (YPA) – A series of expanded scientific meetings, including a group of religious scholars, preachers and intellectuals, were organized on Thursday in a number of Yemeni provinces to condemn the repeated abuse of the Holy Quran.

The religious scholars affirmed, in statements, the pivotal role of scientists in raising awareness of society and promoting the values of mutual respect.

They considered the abuse of sacred objects as practices that inflame religious tensions and threaten world social peace.

The statements added that the defense of the Quran is inseparable from the support of just causes, especially the oppression of the Palestinian people.

The meetings called on international institutions to stop double standards in dealing with freedom of expression when it comes to Islamic shrines.

These moves come in light of repeated incidents of abuse of the Holy Quran in a number of countries, amid increasing demands to take legal and international measures to ensure respect for religious sanctities and prevent the exploitation of freedom of expression to offend religions.
