2 people killed, others injured due to shooting in American university

SANAA, Dec. 14 (YPA) – At least two people were killed and others injured in a shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island on Saturday, law enforcement officials said.

In a press conference, Providence Mayor, Brett Smiley, said “I can confirm that two people died this afternoon, and there are eight people with critical injuries, but we do not have an active shooter in custody at this time.”

The Ivy League university issued an alert about existence of an active shooter and urged students and staff to take shelter during the second day of final exams.

Police have not released details about the number of victims, their conditions, or the circumstances of the shooting.

It’s noteworthy that university officials initially told students and staff that a suspect had been apprehended, before later saying that this was not true and that police were still searching for a suspect or suspects, according to alerts issued via Brown University’s emergency notification system.

Providence Police issued instructions stating, “Shelter in place and avoid the area until further notice.”
