GAZA, Dec. 10 (YPA) – An air depression has caused widespread flooding in the makeshift tent camps across the Gaza Strip, leading to an escalating humanitarian disaster.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have left exposed to freezing temperatures and unsanitary conditions as a result of heavy rains that inundated thousands of tents.
At least 300,000 new tents or shelter units are desperately needed to accommodate the estimated 1.5 million people still displaced.
The Gaza-based Government Media Office warned that a possible polar air depression was expected to cause more serious damage, putting hundreds of thousands in immediate danger.
Meanwhile, several international aid organizations and the Palestinian authorities are calling for an urgent increase in humanitarian assistance and the lifting of restrictions on essential supplies.
