OCCUPIED QUDS, Nov. 13 (YPA) – The Quds (Jerusalem) Governorate on Wednesday warned against a new settlement plan by the Israeli occupation authorities to establish a waste treatment incinerator in the village of Qalandia north of the city, asserting that the project paves the way for a “forced displacement” operation affecting dozens of Jerusalemite families.
In a statement, the Governorate explained that the occupation authorities issued evacuation orders for homes and agricultural lands in Qalandia within 20 days, in preparation for the construction of an Israeli municipal facility behind the Separation Wall. The project, it noted, would lead to the demolition of two buildings and the confiscation of approximately 150 dunams (around 37 acres) of agricultural land.
The Governorate affirmed that this scheme falls under the illegal annexation policy aimed at altering the demographic and geographic character of Quds city (Jerusalem). It also revealed the re-activation of old confiscation orders by the Israeli Finance Minister to enable the expansion of settlement projects in the area.
Concluding its statement, the Governorate called upon the international community and human rights organizations to act urgently to stop the plan, cautioning against a potential environmental and humanitarian disaster resulting from establishing the incinerator in a densely populated area.
