Head of “Southern People’s Council”, another leader abducted in Shabwa, pro-coalition factions accused
SHABWA, Nov. 10 (YPA) – The so-called “Southern People’s Council” issued a statement reporting the abduction of the Council’s head, Ismail Al-Najjar, and the head of its consultative council, Turki Qirat Basardah, on Sunday, at a military checkpoint in the Shabwa governorate, eastern Yemen.
The council directed the accusation toward the “Fourth Brigade” factions, which are loyal to the Saudi-led Coalition.
The abduction occurred while they were passing through a checkpoint belonging to these factions in the Azzan area of Shabwa, according to the statement.
The council attributed the incident to the leaders’ calls for the “unity of the southern ranks” across more than 40 components.
The statement condemned the abduction, describing it as a violation of political rights and freedoms, and demanded the immediate release of Al-Najjar and Basardah, along with an end to what it termed “arbitrary measures” against southern activists.
The council stressed that the incident represents a “clear war” against all those seeking to achieve “southern reconciliation and unity.”
