Armed clashes break out among Aden factions

ADEN, Oct. 24 (YPA) – Armed clashes have occurred between UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions and armed elements of the Southern Resistance in the southern Yemeni city of Aden.

Local sources confirmed that the clashes came after STC’s members attacked angry popular protests demanding electricity and basic services in Sheikh Othman.

The sources explained that the clashes in the Al-Mamdara neighborhood of Sheikh Othman district did after members of the Security Belt Forces opened fire to disperse peaceful protests.

The protestors demanded to improve electrical service and a demonstration against a security campaign in the area that confiscated a number of three-wheeled motorbikes.

The clashes erupted after dozens of youth blocked streets and intersections with burning tires, amid deafening silence from the Aden government and the coalition-backed head of Presidential Leadership Council,” Rashad Al-Alimi, who recently returned from his residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to Maashiq Palace in Aden.

Aden city is being experienced a severe electricity crisis, with power outages now in their fourth consecutive day. Previously, outages lasted up to 21 hours a day due to fuel shortages at power plants, amid the government’s inability to provide the necessary fuel shipments.

Popular protests have escalated in various areas of Aden, demanding an end to the electricity crisis, which has exacerbated the suffering of citizens and caused a severe water crisis in the city.

These recent clashes once again highlight the state of security tension and deteriorating living conditions in Aden.
