TAIZA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – Angry fishermen on Thursday stormed the security administration building of the Thubab district, which overlooks the Bab al-Mandab Strait and is controlled by UAE-backed factions led by “Tariq Affash”, west of Taiz governorate.
The storming came in protest against the arrest of the “Fishermen’s Elder” (‘Aqil al-Sayyadin’) in the area. The fishermen succeeded in freeing him from jail after the security director refused his release and allegedly favored the opposing side in a dispute between two groups of fishermen over night-time fishing using lights.
Tensions escalated following the incident, as Tariq Affash’s factions dispatched armed military reinforcements from Mocha to Thubab, leading to the arrest of several fishermen.
Armed tensions reportedly persist in the center of the district between the fishermen and the armed elements supporting the security administration.
