GAZA, Oct. 20 (YPA) – At least 42 Palestinian civilians were killed as a result of intense Israeli occupation airstrikes that targeted several areas of the Gaza Strip since Sunday morning, medical sources in the Strip reported.
The Israeli occupation forces carried out “fire belts” in several areas, marking the largest violation of the ceasefire agreement that went into effect nine days ago.
The escalation followed Israeli occupation claims that Palestinian fighters had fired at its forces and engineering vehicles with anti-tank missiles in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian resistance denied these claims, accusing the occupation of fabricating pretexts to sabotage the agreement.
In a press statement issued late on Sunday, Hamas movement held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for any potential deterioration or collapse of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, asserting that the occupation has violated the agreement since day one and committed serious violations against civilians.
The movement indicated that the breaches included activity outside the agreed-upon yellow line and preventing the entry of food items and necessary supplies for reconstruction, in addition to delays in the release of detained women and children.
Hamas called on mediators and the guarantor states of the agreement to intervene urgently to ensure Israel’s commitment to the ceasefire terms and the protection of civilians.
