Los Angeles County declares state of emergency over immigration raids

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (YPA) – Los Angeles County authorities on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in response to ongoing raids by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) against undocumented immigrants.

In a statement released by Lindsay Horvath, a member of the Board of Supervisors, the county explained that the decision was made in response to the increasing federal enforcement efforts, which have fostered fear, disrupted neighborhoods, and destabilized families, workers, and businesses throughout the region.

“What’s happening in our communities is an emergency — and Los Angeles County is treating it like one,” said County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath in a statement. “Declaring a Local Emergency ensures that the full weight of County government is aligned to support our immigrant communities who are being targeted by federal actions.”

The measure allows the county to mobilize additional resources to support residents who say they have been financially affected by ICE operations, according to ABC News.

Tensions over immigration in the region escalated. On June 6, 2025, protests began in Los Angeles after ICE agents raided several city locations to arrest individuals allegedly involved in illegal immigration to the United States.

Since President Trump took office on January 20, 2017, he has imposed a strict immigration policy, promising to immediately block undocumented migrants’ entry and begin deporting millions.

He also previously declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border to facilitate border security efforts.
