MOSCOW, Oct. 10 (YPA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin stated Friday that the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to someone other than U.S. President Donald Trump is “not his concern,” asserting that the decision has significantly harmed the prestige of the award.
Putin’s remarks came in response to María Corina Machado’s win of the 2025 prize for her work in defending democracy in Venezuela, amid prior reports circulating about the necessity of granting it to Trump in recognition of his purported efforts in “establishing peace in many regions of the world.”
Putin strongly criticized the Nobel Committee, noting that it has “awarded the Peace Prize more than once to those who have not done anything for peace.” He stressed that the decision to deny Trump the award “inflicted significant damage on the prize’s prestige.”
The Russian President added that Trump is “sincerely committed to resolving the crisis in Ukraine and is working on issues of peace and the Middle East, which is a clear example,” asserting that Trump “is making great efforts to resolve complex, long-term crises.”
Regarding the peace plan to end the war in Gaza, Putin said, “If we can complete what we started, it will be a historic event.”
For its part, the White House expressed its displeasure with the decision immediately after the announcement, considering that denying Trump the award constitutes “further proof of the Nobel Committee’s submission to political considerations.”
Notably, Trump himself did not hide his fervent desire to get the award and had made numerous statements on the matter.
