Nobel Laureate Elfriede Jelinek: Palestinian lands must be returned to their owners

VIENNA, Sept. 02 (YPA) – Austrian Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek called for the return of Palestinian lands to their owners, warning in an essay titled “In a Promised Land” of the potential for “ethnic cleansing” due to the continued land grabs and displacement of Palestinians.

Jelinek questioned the future of Palestinians if their lands and properties are seized, emphasizing their historical connection to their land, unlike the settlers coming from abroad.

She also criticized the labeling of Palestinian farmers and herders as “criminals” or “terrorists” before their expulsion from their lands.

She also attacked the silence and rhetoric of Western politicians, arguing that statements are insufficient in the face of the land grabs and violence taking place on the ground.

She demanded strict European sanctions against land grabs and attacks, asserting that “the time for pledges is over” and that what is required is the achievement of right and justice, because the land “cannot be uprooted and must remain with its owners.”
