GAZA, oct. 04 (YPA) – The Gaza-based Center for Human Rights confirmed on Saturday an unprecedented escalation in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, just hours after US President Donald Trump called on the Israeli occupation to halt the bombing.
In a statement, the center reported that Israeli forces carried out 59 air and artillery strikes in less than 16 hours, targeting densely populated areas, civilian neighborhoods, and vital and service facilities.
The intense attacks resulted in the deaths of 34 Palestinians, including 27 in Gaza City, five in Khan Yunis, and two in the central Gaza Strip. They also resulted in dozens of injuries, most of them women and children, and widespread destruction of public and private property.
The statement documented the death of a girl this morning as a result of an Israeli helicopter strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, and multiple civilian casualties. In Khan Yunis, two children were killed and eight others were injured after an Israeli drone targeted a tent housing displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area.
It noted that warplanes targeted a house on Yarmouk Street, killing one civilian. Another bombing resulted in a horrific massacre against the Al-Mazloum and Al-Rafati families in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, where six civilians were killed and others remain missing under the rubble.
The statement also documented a “new crime” involving the detonation of car bombs among civilian homes in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City.
The center noted that warplanes targeted a house on Yarmouk Street, killing one citizen. Another strike resulted in a “horrific massacre” against the Al-Mazloum and Al-Rafati families in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, where six citizens were killed and others are still missing under the rubble.
It emphasized that the continued escalation confirmed the occupation authorities’ insistence on committing crimes that amount to war crimes and genocide, while deliberately disregarding international calls, including the US President’s recent demand to halt the bombing.
The statement highlighted that “Israel”‘s public disregard for Trump’s demand represents a “blatant challenge to international will” and highlights Israeli benefit from the policy of “impunity” and the political and military support it receives from major powers, most notably the United States.
According to the Center, this escalation comes at a time when the Gaza Strip is facing a stifling humanitarian crisis as a result of the comprehensive blockade, mass displacement, and the near-total collapse of its infrastructure, in addition to the targeting of medical facilities, which are suffering from a severe shortage of supplies.
It concluded its statement by calling on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent action to halt the ongoing genocidal war.
