SANAA, Sept. 16 (YPA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sanaa government has refuted the monthly briefing presented by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to the Security Council.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry stated that the briefing failed to address the root causes of the humanitarian crisis, which are the continuous aggression and blockade imposed on Yemen for the past ten years.
The ministry clarified that “Grundberg’s briefing did not mention the United States’ role in obstructing the peace process, particularly following Yemen’s supportive stance toward Gaza.” It also noted that the briefing ignored unilateral actions taken by other parties that have exacerbated the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The statement pointed out that the UN envoy prioritizes the issue of detainees from what are described as “spy cells,” which the ministry considers an overreach of his mandate as a peace mediator. The ministry emphasized that the real obstacles to peace efforts and aid delivery are not these legal procedures but rather the ongoing aggression and blockade.
Regarding the statements of Security Council members, the ministry welcomed the condemnation by some countries of the Zionist aggression against Yemen and the targeting of civilians. It also appreciated their calls for respecting Yemen’s sovereignty and providing humanitarian support.
The statement concluded by affirming Sanaa’s commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace and its full readiness to defend the homeland.
