Russia, China link Yemen’s stability to ending Gaza war at UN Security Council

NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (YPA) – Russia and China sent strong messages during a UN Security Council session on Monday, calling for respect for Yemen’s sovereignty and emphasizing that an end to the war in Gaza is the key to de-escalating tensions in the region.

The Russian representative, Dmitry Polyansky, stressed that “Israel’s targeting of civilians and infrastructure in Yemen constitutes a grave violation and exacerbates regional tensions.” He clarified that halting the aggression on Gaza and lifting the siege would directly lead to an end to naval operations in the Red Sea.

For his part, the Chinese representative, Fu Cong, affirmed the need to respect Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that resolving the Yemen issue and securing navigation in the Red Sea are directly linked to de-escalating the situation in Gaza.

The positions of Moscow and Beijing clearly indicate that stability in Yemen and the Red Sea cannot be achieved in isolation from an end to the war in Gaza.
