DOHA, Sept. 14 (YPA) – Questions persist regarding the whereabouts of several leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) based in Qatar, following a failed Israeli assassination attempt.
Their absence from the public eye and their non-attendance at the funeral of the son of senior leader Khalil Al-Hayya and his companions in Doha have fueled speculation.
Gazan journalist Diaa Hassan, speaking on the program “This Evening” hosted by Adham Habiballah, revealed that the Hamas leadership is “safe and in a secure location under tight security.”
He confirmed that the targeted leaders sustained various injuries, stating, “Only one of them is in a serious condition, while the others have minor injuries, and some are fine with no injuries.”
Hassan explained that the leaders’ absence from the funeral is “natural,” given their status as high-priority targets. He noted that “Israel is closely monitoring their movements,” which necessitated their relocation to secret locations under heavy protection by Qatari security forces.
He added that Hamas has a history of briefly concealing the death of some of its leaders in Gaza, but “outside the Strip, they are accustomed to making an immediate announcement.” Hassan stressed that the information he received from his sources is “highly reliable.”
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation entity’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the failure of the recent assassination attempt on Hamas leaders. He stated that “eliminating Hamas leaders in Qatar would have removed the main obstacle to the release of all hostages and the end of the war in Gaza.” This admission reflects the high stakes the Israeli occupation placed on this operation.
Observers believe that the continued ambiguity surrounding the fate of the movement’s leaders will remain a mutual pressure point between the Israeli government and Hamas, especially amid the stalled negotiations on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
