ABYAN, Sept. 08 (YPA) – Widespread popular protests have erupted in the Lodar district of Abyan province, southern Yemen, demanding the dismissal of the district director, Jamal Al-Alala, who is affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), along with other officials.
The protests come amid accusations of corruption and mismanagement.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Lodar city on Sunday, chanting slogans calling for Al-Alala’s departure. They held up signs urging the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to intervene and remove all officials accused of causing the deteriorating conditions.
The protesters stated that the district is suffering from unprecedented security chaos and a severe decline in basic services, including water and electricity outages, which has compounded the suffering of residents.
