GAZA, Sept. 04 (YPA) – Thousands of people demonstrated in the southern Italian city of Catania in support of Palestine and the Global Steadfastness Flotilla, which set sail from Spain to the Gaza Strip to break the Israeli blockade.
Thousands gathered at the port of Catania, the meeting point for boats joining the Global Steadfastness Flotilla from Italy, and marched toward the city center, waving Palestinian flags and banners in support of Palestine and the Steadfastness Flotilla.
During the march, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Freedom for Palestine,” “Our cities with Palestine,” “Stop the genocide,” “Free Palestine from the river to the sea,” and “Intifada.”
The phrase “Gaza, we are coming” was displayed on a large screen in Federico di Svevia Square at the end of the march.
On Sunday, about 20 ships as part of the “Steadfastness Flotilla” set sail from the Spanish port of Barcelona, followed by another convoy at dawn on Monday from the port of Genoa in northwestern Italy.
These ships are expected to meet another convoy that will depart from Tunisia next Sunday, before continuing its journey towards Gaza in the coming days.
The flotilla consists of the Freedom Flotilla Union, the Global Gaza Movement, the Steadfastness Flotilla, and the Malaysian Sumud Nusantara Organization.
