Sanaa FM responds to UN, regional organizations regarding spy cells

SANAA, Sept. 03 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed on Wednesday the need for United Nations organizations, programs, agencies, and funds to adhere to the principles of humanitarian action.

In a statement, the ministry indicated that the United Nations and some regional organizations rushed to issue statements condemning the legal measures taken by the government against spy cells that participated in crimes, including the crime of targeting the head of Sanaa government and its members. However, they kept suspiciously silent and did not condemn this crime, which is considered targeting the symbols of the state and its national institutions and a dangerous precedent at the regional and global levels.

“What the security services are doing is consistent with the values of the true Islamic religion, relevant national laws, and the rules of international human rights law,” the statement added. “Yemen was one of the first countries to join the United Nations on September 30, 1947, and welcomed the presence of numerous UN and international governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as thousands of civil society organizations, in support of humanitarian work.”

The statement pointed out that the Republic of Yemen respects the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, the 1947 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of Specialized Organizations, and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, emphasizing that these immunities do not protect espionage activities and those who practice them, nor do they provide them with legal cover.

The ministry’s statement indicated that the program of the Sanaa government included strengthening communication and building trust with the United Nations, international organizations, and the international community.

It also indicated that the government had approved a number of rules governing the work of organizations operating in Yemen, most notably respect for the constitution, laws, and the privacy of Yemeni society, as well as commitment to the tasks assigned to these organizations and the principles of humanitarian action.

The statement noted that UN staff and buildings of numerous humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza have been targeted by the Zionist entity over the past two years, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of international staff working for UN and international organizations, while the international community remained inactive. Indeed, some countries provided cover for these crimes in the Security Council, clearly revealing the policy of double standards.

Finally, the ministry expressed its appreciation for the efforts of numerous humanitarian organizations working with neutrality and independence to alleviate the humanitarian situation resulting from the aggression and blockade.
