HADRAMOUT, Sept. 03 (YPA) – The people of Hadramout province, which is under coalition control in eastern Yemen, are preparing to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, on Thursday in the city of Mukalla, the province’s capital.
Several major cities in Hadhramout are being witnessed preparations to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday, including Tarim, Seiyun, and Mukalla. This is despite attempts by armed factions loyal to Saudi Arabia and the UAE to prevent the celebrations, which are being described as a “heresy” by the centers of extremist Salafi groups affiliated with Yahya al-Hajouri.
Celebrating the Prophet’s birthday is an annual tradition and deeply rooted culture among the people of Hadramout. The celebrations include religious activities for prayer, remembrance of Allah in mosques, and chanting religious hymns about the Prophet throughout the main streets, seeking forgiveness, and a review of his moral and humanitarian life, may Allah bless him and grant them peace.
The celebration of the Prophet’s birthday represents a clear challenge by Hadrami residents to the restrictions being imposed by extremist Salafist groups, which ban such celebrations in the coalition-controlled southern provinces.
