LAHJ, Aug. 31 (YPA) – The brother of a prominent militia commander affiliated with the Islah party in southern Yemen has killed his personal bodyguard in a gruesome incident that has sparked widespread outrage.
According to local human rights sources, Alawi Ali Al-Jabouli, the brother of Abu Bakr Al-Jubouli—commander of the 4th Brigade in the so-called “Tur Al-Baha Axis” in Lahj—allegedly shot and killed his bodyguard, Wael Wadi’ Sultan Al-Maqtri, at the Al-Kuraimi checkpoint in the Al-Khudayrah area, near the entrance to Al-Maqatirah district.
Sources indicated that the motive behind the crime was Al-Jabouli’s attempt to sexually assault his escort, Al-Muqtri, who strongly resisted, prompting Al-Jabouli to execute him in an effort to cover up the crime.
A video shared on social media shows an unidentified individual outlining the circumstances surrounding the killing, further fueling public outrage.
The incident sparked anger among the local population, highlighting the ongoing lawlessness and absence of state authority in large parts of Lahj and surrounding regions, where government control has been limited since early 2016.
