WORLD, Aug. 16 (YPA) – The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) stated that since the beginning of August, the Israeli occupation army has carried out 11 attacks against personnel securing humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, contributing to a worsening state of chaos and escalating famine.
In a statement, the UN office said these attacks targeted security personnel protecting aid convoys and resulted in the killing of at least 46 Palestinians.
It noted that most of those killed were security personnel escorting aid and supply convoys, along with some aid seekers, and that several injuries were also reported.
According to the OHCHR, these attacks are part of a recurring pattern, suggesting deliberate targeting by the Israeli military of those presumed civilians involved in securing the necessities of life.
The statement explained that the Human Rights Office has documented dozens of incidents in which Israel illegally targeted Gaza’s civil police since the beginning of the war, contributing to a collapse of public order around aid convoys.
“The current attacks on those trying to provide security to humanitarian and other supply convoys have contributed to this disorder and worsened the starvation of Palestinians.”
It emphasized that under international law, civilian police officers and security personnel are protected from attack unless they directly participate in hostilities.
OHCHR called on the Israeli occupation army to immediately stop its attacks on Palestinians who try to secure humanitarian aid convoys amid the ongoing war of extermination and starvation on the Gaza Strip.
