Egypt voices support for deployment of international forces in Gaza

CAIRO, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty said there is no objection to the deployment of international forces in the Gaza Strip, to enable the Palestinian Authority to assert its sovereignty over Palestinian territories.

Abdelatty’s remarks are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the Gaza conflict and revive negotiations. Recent media leaks suggest Cairo and Doha are preparing a comprehensive agreement to resolve the war and hostage crisis, timed with a US-Qatari meeting.

During a press conference with his Ivorian counterpart on Monday in Cairo, Abdelatty pointed out that Cairo “does not oppose the deployment of international forces to enable the Palestinian Authority to assert its sovereignty over Palestinian lands.”

He emphasized Egypt’s ongoing efforts to prevent “Israel” from expanding its military operations in Gaza, strongly rejecting Israeli threats of a complete takeover of the territory.

Abdelatty revealed that Egypt has been engaged in intensive discussions with international partners, including the United States and the European Union, warning of the grave consequences of Israel’s actions and what he described as irresponsible decisions.

He stressed the need to restart negotiations, saying there is still a chance to reach a full agreement “if goodwill and political will exist.”

Abdelatty also expressed serious concern over the catastrophic situation unfolding in Gaza, specifically pointing to the blockade on humanitarian aid.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister held “Israel” responsible for the ongoing humanitarian crisis, underscoring the urgency of providing assistance to those in need.

Abdelatty further accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and of severely restricting the entry of humanitarian aid.
