SANAA, Aug. 03 (YPA) – The Syrian province of Al-Sweida witnessed renewed security tensions, on Sunday morning, represented by an exchange of intermittent shelling between armed members of the Druze sect and others from Bedouin tribes.
The tension sparked a state of panic among civilians, especially after several mortar shells fell on the town of Ara in the southern Sweida countryside, whereas the shells originated from a Christian cemetery controlled by armed Bedouin groups, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to Observatory sources, armed members of the Druze sect responded to the sources of fire, targeting the shell launch sites in the cemetery.
The clashes are still ongoing intermittently, without any human losses being recorded, while a state of anxiety prevails among residents due to the repeated targeting of residential areas in recent days.
Despite the escalating tension, no official clarifications have been issued by the city’s security or administrative authorities regarding the source of the fire or the parties responsible for the escalation, which has increased the level of ambiguity and popular tension in the region.
The Syrian Observatory warned of the danger of continuing these attacks, which threaten the lives of civilians and further disintegrate the social fabric in the province, calling for immediate action by the relevant authorities to stop the sources of fire, and holding those responsible accountable, and putting an end to the state of security chaos.
