HADRAMOUT, July 30 (YPA) – Militants affiliated with UAE-funded factions on Wednesday assaulted a group of youths in Mukalla city, located in the oil-rich province of Hadramout, after the group demanded better living conditions and improved public services.
Activists documented the moment when members loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) attacked young protesters in Al-Ghar Al-Ahmar within the Khalaf district in Mukalla.
They also attempted to detain them and relocate them to one of their affiliated prisons. This incident followed a widespread abduction campaign targeting many youths who participated in the protests.
These demonstrations, which persisted for four days, called for reliable electricity and water services. It is worth noting that one protester was killed and another injured by gunfire from STC’s forces on Monday evening.
This occurred during public protests that expressed growing outrage by shutting down Mukalla’s oil port and the electricity authority building, along with blocking main streets using burning tires.
The protests were fueled by prolonged power outages lasting over 12 consecutive hours, with no effective solutions provided by the Saudi-led coalition-affiliated authorities or the government based in the Ma’ashiq Palace in Aden.
