Portugal calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza, warns of humanitarian disaster

LISBON, July 29 (YPA) – Portugal’s Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel called on Tuesday for an immediate end to the war in the Gaza Strip, warning of the worsening humanitarian disaster affecting civilians, especially children, as a result of the ongoing Israeli blockade and aggression since October 2023.

The minister affirmed that “there is no justification for starving or killing civilians,” reiterating his country’s categorical rejection of any attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians and emphasizing the need to stop Zionist settler attacks in the West Bank.

Portugal reiterated its commitment to the two-state solution and its support for the Palestinian Authority. It also announced its support for the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, stressing that this requires a permanent ceasefire and ensuring the flow of aid.

The Portuguese minister indicated that Portugal will continue to work with its partners to push for a comprehensive political solution in the Middle East.
