International meeting held in Sanaa to discuss challenges of humanitarian action

SANAA, July 28 (YPA) – An expanded humanitarian meeting, organized by the ministry of foreign affairs, began on Monday in Sanaa with UN and international organizations and civil society organizations.

The three-day meeting, attended by representatives of foreign and local organizations, would discuss enhancing the coordination of humanitarian efforts in Yemen and the challenges and repercussions of declining funding.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Gamal Amer stressed the importance of holding the expanded humanitarian meeting, sponsored by the Ministry’s International Cooperation Sector, to exchange views with UN and international organizations and resolve issues that could be subject to misunderstanding or indifference from any party here or humanitarian organizations.

Mr. Amer denied rumors of an upcoming targeting of UN organizations and personnel, saying, “This is untrue and lacks objectivity. These rumors are intended to create confusion and mistrust between UN personnel and the Sanaa government.” The minister explained that his ministry was seeking an amnesty from the political leadership for the detainees.

He pointed out that the Resident Coordinator was aware that the reduction in aid to Yemen, Sanaa-held areas had begun before the detention of UN staff, and that the reductions were the result of clear political pressures, adding that the events of the Red Sea and the support provided to Gaza were the real basis for the UN pressure on Sanaa through humanitarian aid.

The minister praised the continued support of some international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, which rejected any decisions that conflicted with the standards of humanitarian operations.
