ADEN, July 24 (YPA) – Residents of the Saudi-led coalition-controlled city of Aden are suffering from continuous power outages lasting more than 15 hours a day, a crisis that has persisted without any improvement since the beginning of 2016.
Activists believe this situation constitutes a real tragedy that exacerbates the suffering of the residents, especially during the hot summer, forcing many to migrate to rural areas in search of better conditions.
The activists stressed that promises made by Rashad Al-Alimi, president of the so-called “Leadership Council” and also the prime minister loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), to improve electricity services have not materialized on the ground. Rather, the crisis has worsened, with power outages increasing to more than 16 hours a day, compared to previous outages that did not exceed 10 hours a day.
Over the past two weeks, residents have reported power outages lasting up to 15 hours, with limited power supply lasting no more than two hours a day.
Activists have also sharply criticized the parties backed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, accusing them of fabricating crises as part of a power conflict in the city. They viewed these policies as collective punishment against the people of Aden, who have been suffering the consequences of mismanagement since the beginning of 2016.
