Teachers Syndicate in Hadramout precedes school year with inclusive strike

HADRAMOUT, July 23 (YPA) – The Teachers Syndicate in Hadramout Coast announced on Wednesday an inclusive strike, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, in protest against the deteriorating living conditions.

In a statement, the Syndicate confirmed that the strike became an individual obligation after years of continuous suffering and accumulated neglect of teachers’ rights by the coalition-affiliated Aden government.

It indicated that the strike would be part of the escalation steps in accordance with approved legal and union regulations.

“The hardships and escalating suffering we have reached today have brought us to an unprecedented level of humiliation and degradation, leading our teachers to advanced stages of severe psychological distress and a high level of begging and family disintegration,” the statement.

The statement addressed the students and their parents, saying: “We are not advocates of chaos or obstruction of the educational process. Rather, we are pioneers of the enlightenment movement and advocates of peace, security, and development. However, the harsh living conditions and the incomparable disparity in living standards between the ruler and the ruled have brought us to a state of abject poverty.”

It added that the ten lean years of war on Yemen have led to catastrophic and tragic conditions for teachers, calling on the Aden government to pay teachers’ salaries equivalent to the 2014 currency exchange rate.

The Syndicate’s statement stressed the need for regular monthly salary disbursement on time before the end of each month.
