GAZA, July 22 (YPA) – Hamas movement issued an urgent appeal to the leaders and rulers of Arab and Islamic countries, warning of the escalation of famine in the Gaza Strip to unprecedented catastrophic levels, amid the ongoing stifling Israeli blockade for nearly five months.
In a news statement on Tuesday, the movement said that the Gaza Strip is being witnessed an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, with nearly 100 civilians killed by hunger and malnutrition, including about 80 children, in addition to more than a thousand killed by Israeli bullets while trying to reach food aid at checkpoints.
“We are witnessing a painful official Arab and Islamic silence that does not rise to the level of the ongoing massacre affecting over two and a quarter million people in Gaza,” the statement clarified, considering that this silence disappoints the Palestinian people and gives the occupation a green light to continue its policy of starvation and genocide.”
It criticized the continued backlog of thousands of aid trucks on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, in light of what it described as a “systematic mechanism of humiliation and killing” employed by the occupation authorities to manage the blockade, noting that the people of Gaza are being besieged by death, while food and medicine are being deliberately withheld.
The statement also expressed its disapproval of the failure to implement the outcomes of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit, which was held in Riyadh in November 2023 and called for an end to the aggression, the lifting of the blockade, and the entry of urgent aid.
It called on Arab and Islamic countries to take a historic” position by activating political and economic pressure tools to immediately break the blockade and halt the policy of mass starvation against civilians.
The movement’s statement called for decisive measures, including severing ties with the Israeli occupation, closing embassies, expelling Zionist ambassadors, and halting all forms of normalization, considering this a necessary step to isolate this fascist entity and pressure to halt its crimes against the Palestinian people.
The statement called on Arab and Islamic countries to take a “historic” stance by activating political and economic pressure tools to immediately break the siege and halt the policy of mass starvation against civilians.
