General strike hits all courts, prosecution offices in Aden

ADEN, July 21 (YPA) – A general strike continues for the second consecutive day across all courts and prosecution offices in the coalition-controlled Aden province, south of Yemen.

The strike came followed the administrative body of the Judges Club’s Aden branch had announced it would suspend works in protest against what it described as arbitrary decisions against the branch’s leadership.

Citizens said that all courts and prosecution offices in the city kept closed, while litigation and legal transactions were halted, disrupting the interests of hundreds of citizens.

On Sunday, the Judges’ Club announced last Saturday that the strike began, following the expiry of the deadline it had given the Supreme Judicial Council to retract its recent decisions.

The club demanded that the judiciary be reformed and its independence guaranteed.
