BAGHDAD, July 17 (YPA) – About 77 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a shopping mall in the city of Kut in Iraq’s Wasit province, according to Shafaq News on Thursday.
In a statement, Wasit governor Mohammed Al-Mayahi mourned all sons of the city of Kut and all of Wasit, with this painful incident, as we lost almost 50 people, including men, women, and children, from the provinc’s sons and daughters in the ominous hypermarket mall fire incident.
In a separate statement, Al-Mayahi declared a three-day mourning period for the victims of the Kut fire tragedy.
The governor addressed the victims’ families, saying, “We will not be lenient with those who were directly or indirectly responsible for this incident, which is not without its complications.” He added, “We will announce the preliminary results of the investigation to the public within 48 hours.”
