Ancient Yemeni electrum seal sold at US auction

SANAA, July 16 (YPA) – Yemeni archaeologist Abdullah Mohsen said in a post on his Facebook page that a rare Yemeni seal made of electrum gold was sold at auction abroad years ago.

The expert added, “A rare Yemeni cylindrical seal dating back to the first century BC, made of octagonal gold, was sold at auction in the United States on March 1, 2023.”

Mohsen continued to say, “The seal is part of a private collection in New York City, acquired by Fortuna Fine Arts Ltd.”

The expert described the seal as being electrum, covered on both ends, and with a hanging hole. Each side is engraved with a Musnad inscription, consisting of four or five letters per line.
