SANAA, July 12 (YPA) – The Central Bank of Yemen in Sanaa announced on Saturday the minting of a new 50-riyal coin, which will be put into circulation starting tomorrow, Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The bank explained in its statement that the introduction of this coin is part of its efforts to address the issue of damaged banknotes and improve the quality of the national currency in circulation.
It further clarified that this step reflects the bank’s commitment to reinforcing public confidence in the national currency. This move is also in line with the bank’s earlier announcement regarding the issuance of a 100-riyal coin, serving as a carefully planned and responsible measure to replace worn-out banknotes without increasing the money supply or affecting exchange rates.
The coin has been designed and minted to meet the highest technical and security standards, ensuring its durability and efficiency for circulation.
The statement also mentioned that the Central Bank has set up exchange centers at its main headquarters and branches across various provinces. These centers will facilitate the replacement of damaged paper currency with the new coins for all citizens and relevant entities during official work hours.
