Emirati company in Mocha imposes payment of electricity fees in foreign currencies

TAIZ, July 12 (YPA) – An Emirati company imposed electricity tariffs in US dollars and Saudi riyals on commercial and other establishments in the city of Mocha and neighboring Tihama regions, amid widespread local condemnation.

Human rights activists from Tihama reported information indicating that the Emirati electricity company “Go Green Power,” which operates power plants in Mocha, obligated consumers, government institutions, hospitals, and private facilities to pay their bills in US dollars and Saudi riyals, starting yesterday.

They confirmed that the company’s services, which initially came under the name “free electricity from the Emirati grant,” have turned into an investment project with exorbitant consumption fees.

They attributed the reasons for collecting consumption fees in dollars and Saudi riyals, according to the company’s notifications, to the import of all production inputs in foreign currency, the collapse of the local currency in those areas, and the loss of its purchasing power.

They pointed out that household consumption tariffs are still paid in the local currency, the Yemeni riyal, without the company paying any fees to the local authorities affiliated with the coalition in Taiz.
